Worthwhile Reasons to Build a Professional Basketball Court

Many factors come into play when choosing a suitable surface for playing basketball. Aside from the players' speeds and techniques, considerations such as ball bounce and sliding distance are also essential. These factors determine how suitable the court is for a game of basketball.

Here are some of the reasons to get a professional basketball court:

Asphalt is unsuitable for a basketball court

While playing basketball on an asphalt surface can provide a nice bounce to the ball, it can also be dangerous. Asphalt is a hard surface that provides little support for falls and can cause bruising and other injuries. Repeated stress to the knees, for example, can be the source of long-term problems. The nature of the surface can also lead to concussions if a player hits their head.

Asphalt courts are not ideal for the back-and-forth movements of basketball. Hence, the dynamic nature of a basketball game can't be fully achieved on an asphalt court.

Selecting the right surface

Instead of using asphalt courts, select a synthetic surface as it's more durable and offers better protection against falls. Playing basketball on a shock-absorbing surface can provide better grip and less bruising than the rough and tumble of asphalt courts. Synthetic surfaces are easier to clean and last for 10 to 15 years.

Construction of a professional basketball court

Basketball courts come in diverse shapes and sizes. Let's look at the factors to consider when constructing a basketball court:

Size

A basketball court in an outdoor area should measure at least 50 feet wide. It should also be 94 feet long with a level playing surface.

Hoops

Although the dimensions of a basketball court may vary, the hoop measurement is standard. It should always be 10 feet above the ground, except in youth competitions.

Orientation

A standard basketball court has two halves with a central jump circle. The baskets are placed at the ends of the court, surrounded by restricted areas in a semi-circle shape. A free throw circle is located at the end of a rectangular free throw lane, while semi-circles mark the three-point lines.

Surface

Hardwood surfaces may consist of polished wood (such as maple) for indoor basketball courts. Also, they can be made from synthetic materials like rubber tiles.

Although asphalt and concrete are common for outdoor courts, rubber is a more suitable surface as it can reduce the stress on the joints. Synthetic surfaces also improve the court's weather resistance, meaning the court will last longer.

Consider professional sports facilities

An experienced basketball court installation company will ensure that the basketball court is fitted to industry standards with a suitable surface for the players. A well-installed court will last for years and result in fewer injuries for the athletes.
